Unfortunately, our Secretary, Debbie Brown, had to stand down at the AGM as she is moving away from the area. Although only with us for two years, Debbie quickly got into the ‘nitty gritty’ of her role and carried out her duties very efficiently. Our sincere thanks go to Debbie for all her hard work. Currently, we don’t have a replacement for her.
Financial Year 01.04.2017 – 31.03.2018
Our financial position declined substantially in comparison with the previous year. Our income for 2017/18 was £27,400 (2016/17: £54,500). This was partly due to the fact that we received no legacies during the year (2016/17: £16,000) and also increased vet’s bills of £35,000 (2016/17: £25,000). We, therefore, had to draw on our reserves to meet our (unavoidable) expenses. Thus we were able to support Wallace Kennels (including vet’s bills) to the tune of £4,480 per month (compared with 2016/17: £3,570 per month). However, we will not be able to sustain this level of expenditure without a considerable injection of funds in terms of donations and/or legacies.
Our main source of fund-raising comes from our jumble sales and we are fortunate to have a dedicated group of members who regularly help at these events – our wholehearted thanks go to all of them. We currently have a Committee of six members (out of a possible ten) and the task of fund-raising has become ever more difficult. We all do our very best but some of us are becoming rather ‘wrinkly’ so we really do need some new blood to help us!
